From 3km to 14km in
less than a year
"I had no
idea that joining a running group would lead me to where I am
now…"
A personal account

"3km was the furthest I’d run before I
joined running group. Running will always be challenging but with
the right preparation, I know that I can achieve my
goals...Sometimes I struggle to get going, but I know how amazing I
feel after a training session. Keeping fit is important to me and
this keeps me motivated.
I can remember a time when I
would never have bothered to get up early on a
Sunday morning to run!!!! Making positive lifestyle changes has
meant that I have been able to achieve my running
goals.
I’m so happy about what I have achieved! I could not
have done it without the support of Jodie, Susan, Emma,
Mark and Steve who are continually helping me to achieve.

Despite not being able to run 3km when Fran started, she
has now completed:
April 2008, first 5km run at the hilly
Westerfolds park
October 2008, completed the 10km “Run to the
G”
April 2009 completed the 14km “Run for the
Kids”.
May 2009 8km “Mother’s Day Classic” and the 14km “Great Ocean Road
Marathon” run
June 2009 10km “Run Melbourne”
August 2009 14km “Sydney City to Surf”
October 2009 21km Melbourne HALF MARATHON
Many many more events since!
Fran still continues to attend our running
program and achieves fantastic results. Congratulatons to
Fran for having the courage to attend on Day 1.
